Meet the Team

Jeff MacMillan

Jeff has over 20 years experience as a combat systems engineer with the Canadian navy and starting, growing and selling technology companies. He has an extensive background in leadership, operational technology, communications & cyber-security, public speaking, project management and fund raising.

KeyNexus, Jeff’s most recent venture-backed cyber-security company that he founded in 2012, transformed how encryption key management was delivered to the edge, data center and cloud markets. As CEO and founder, Jeff navigated the complex waters of a developing niche for private/public/hybrid cloud security. After KeyNexus was acquired in 2020, Jeff stayed on as the company CTO for a year before founding GECCO in response to his vision for a greener, more operationally relevant edge computing industry.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Engineering from Royal Military College in Kingston, Canada. He is the lead inventor on multiple patents in the field of cyber security, encryption, and edge computing.

Rudi Carolsfeld

Rudi has 30 years of technical sales and marketing experience tackling complex issues that have a direct impact on the resilience and efficiency of his clients’ businesses. While at Power Measurement Ltd. he held numerous roles in engineering, marketing and domestic & international sales, and was Sales Director for Europe when the company was acquired by Schneider Electric in 2005.

Rudi held the position of Vice President for the Asia Pacific region while working at RuggedCom when the company was acquired by Siemens in 2012. Rudi then became VP Global Product Business Development, responsible for the global sales team and for strategic product business development. As EVP for Sales at Awesense (a startup in Vancouver Canada), he oversaw large scale deployments of infrastructure to reduce energy losses. Most recently, Rudi was regional manager for Impact Technical Products representing a number of companies in the western Canadian region  focused on ICT and infrastructure technologies.

Rudi has a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria and completed strategic marketing and technical Japanese courses at Stanford University and MIT, respectively. He has been a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) since 1983, has authored numerous technical journal papers and white papers, and is co-inventor of a multi-featured power meter.

“I wanted to launch GECCO to find ways to reduce the impact of the ever-expanding demand for computing resources and network connectivity. My hope is that we can accelerate the transition to a lower energy intensity for widely distributed computing systems everywhere, and offer a solution that enables cleaner, faster, more robust systems than anything available until now.”
